The student: Gregory Wallace, 17
School: Centennial High School
Special achievement: A recipient of a Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship. One of nine scholarship recipients in the state and among 7,500 entrants nationwide, he earned the program's silver award for Maryland in the category of science, business and technology.
Other accomplishments: Participant in a six-week NASA engineering internship this past summer and winner of a Samsung American Legion Scholarship for Maryland based on academic merit, leadership and community involvement.
Learning from a role model: "I'm doing a senior mentorship this year, and I'm working with someone who ... [works] as a consultant with hospital groups. He has a science background, and he's taken that a step further."
What's in store for the future: "In college, I am considering majoring in physics and then pursuing a business or law degree in graduate school. I am interested in organizational development."
His ultimate ambition: To take scientific goals and dreams and put them into action. He plans on "using ideas and new projects to improve the quality of life on Earth."
