Next time you have friends over to watch a Ravens game, try this Touchdown Turkey Salad recipe from the USA Rice Federation: Combine 2 cups of cooled, cooked rice (cooked in chicken broth); 2 cups of cooked turkey breast strips; 1 1/2 cups diced unpeeled apple; 1 cup sliced celery; 1/4 cup chopped, toasted walnuts; and 1/3 cup bottled poppy-seed salad dressing. Toss and serve on lettuce leaves. Makes 4 servings.
A devilishy clever idea
You don't need a pastry bag to fill deviled eggs. Cook's Illustrated suggests putting the yolk mixture in a sealable plastic bag, snipping a small piece from one corner, and squeezing the filling through the hole into the egg halves.
The flavors of Poland
You can take your taste buds to Poland without leaving home. Joan and David Peterson's "Eat Smart Poland" (Ginkgo Press, $12.95) is the latest in a series of books on international cuisine. It describes Polish food, offers menu suggestions and provides simple recipes. It is available at local bookstores and on-line booksellers.
