Tom Bowmann, principal of Thomas Johnson Elementary School, was recognized as one of the nation's distinguished elementary school principals yesterday.
Bowmann, who has led a turnaround at his South Baltimore school in the past several years, was one of 66 principals across the nation honored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the U.S. Department of Education. He was the only principal in Maryland to receive the award this year.
"I am very excited for the Thomas Johnson community, but I am even more excited for colleagues in Baltimore," he said, crediting them with inspiring him. "It is really a humbling experience."
