A bus taking Howard County children to a private school in College Park skidded into the rear of a pickup on Route 108 yesterday morning, resulting in three minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 7:18 a.m. as the bus was making rounds eastbound along Route 108 near Beaverbrook Road. Howard County police said wet road conditions caused the bus driver to slam into a pickup truck traveling in front of him.
The driver, Ebrahim Moton, 34, of Baltimore, was given a citation for failure to control his speed to avoid a collision, police said.
Three people received minor injuries, including an 8-year-old girl whose name was not released because of her age. Others treated and released at Howard County General Hospital were a teacher, Mahmoud Hady, 48, of Columbia, and the driver of the pickup truck, Wesley Reed, 35, of Ellicott City.
Moton is employed by the Al-Huda School, a private Muslim school attended by 280 pupils.
Al-Huda runs its own transportation system, consisting of four buses and two vans, a school spokesman said. School officials do not plan to investigate Moton, who they believe was a victim of the rainy weather, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the children on the bus reacted fairly calmly to the accident, and that the 8-year-old girl was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
