Mentors sought to meet and help middle schoolers

Professionals are needed for a mentor program at Brooklyn Park Middle School being coordinated by Baltimore/Washington International Airport and the North Anne Arundel County Business Advisory Board.

Participants will meet students for lunch once a month and share life experiences, give guidance and emphasize the importance of academic achievement as it relates to future job opportunities. The program is to begin next month, and each participant is required to attend an orientation before meeting a student.

Hearing is scheduled on expansion plan

Individuals and representatives of organizations may sign up to testify at a public hearing Thursday at BWI Marriott on the environmental assessment plan for the $1.3 billion expansion planned for the airport.

The Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland Aviation Administration, which drafted the plan for final approval by the Federal Aviation Administration, will conduct the hearing to obtain information and residents' opinions. The expansion will include new parking facilities, larger concourses, moving sidewalks, and road and rail improvements.

Lewin to speak Oct. 4 at breakfast meeting

Richard C. "Mike" Lewin, secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, will speak at the BWI Business Partnership's Spirit of Success breakfast meeting at 7:45 a.m. Oct. 4 at Embassy Suites Hotel, 1300 Concourse Drive, Linthicum.
