Tony Banks threw reasonably well for the game, but was off target in the first half. He often threw behind or too high for receivers. He still needs to be more consistent and had little impact in the second half.
Offensive line A
The Ravens did what they wanted too against the Bengals as they ran for 176 yards. Banks had a lot of time to throw as the Ravens picked up the blitz well. Guard Edwin Mulitalo and Mike Flynn continue to improve and left tackle Jonathan Ogden was his usual dominating self.
Running backs A
Halfback Jamal Lewis was sensational in his first game as the full-time starter, running for 116 yards. He ran hard and showed great acceleration going through the hole. But Lewis also fumbled a couple of times and now teams will try to strip him of the ball. Lewis also runs too high, but he'll straighten that out after getting popped a few more times. Lewis and Priest Holmes complement each other well.
The Ravens took turns toasting the Bengals. Tight end Shannon Sharpe had five catches for 40 yards and Travis Taylor had four catches for 32 yards. But Taylor drops one a game and Patrick Johnson gets taken out of games by physical cornerbacks. It's about time he pushed back.
Defensive line A
Defensive end Rob Burnett was dominant, finishing with four tackles, including two sacks. Fellow defensive end Micahel McCrary also had seven tackles. Defensive tackles Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams also played well, but Siragusa had two stupid penalties.
The linebackers could have taken the day off because the Ravens dominated action up front. Middle linebacker Ray Lewis had only one solo tackle, but had four assists. Strong side linebacker Peter Boulware had one sack and weak side linebacker Jamie Sharper finished with five total tackles.
The Bengals' receivers posed little threat to cornerbacks Chris McAlister and Duane Starks, and Starks picked off one of the team's few long attempts. Strong safety Kim Herring (five tackles) was outstanding on run support.
Special teams B
Punt returner Jermaine Lewis seems like he is on the verge of breaking one and had 37 yards on two returns. The Ravens allowed too much on kickoff returns, but the units were solid throughout the game.
