Brent Sandrock's 28-yard field goal with eight seconds left lifted Western Maryland to a 35-32 victory over Ursinus yesterday in a Centennial Conference game in Collegeville, Pa.
Boo Harris led Western Maryland (3-1, 2-0), completing 17 of 36 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 76 more. Teron Powell caught six passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Ursinus (2-1, 1-1) took an early 17-0 lead, beginning with Shearrod Duncan's 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play. Tom Carluccio added a 37-yard field goal and Rashard Williams caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Chris Rahill.
Western Maryland came back with 21 straight points.
West Virginia State 36, Bowie State 19: Freshman Hollis Lewis threw for 109 yards and ran for two touchdowns to lead West Virginia State (1-3) past visiting Bowie State (0-4) in Institute, W.Va.
Lewis, in his first start, completed 10 of 20 passes for West Virginia State, which scored 30 of its points after turnovers by Bowie State.
West Virginia State led 24-6 at the half.
Frostburg State 27, Methodist 6: Chris Perkins rushed for two touchdowns in the second quarter as the host Bobcats (1-2, 1-0 Atlantic Central Football Conference) cruised past the Monarchs (3-1, 2-1).
Johns Hopkins 42, Kings Point 6: Junior Rob Heleniak completed 19 of 21 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns as the host Blue Jays (2-1) defeated the Mariners (0-4).
The 36-point margin of victory was the largest for the Blue Jays (2-1) in a nonconference game since Oct. 21, 1984, when Hopkins blanked Georgetown, 42-0.
Salisbury State 52, Greensboro 28: Sophomore Tony Ellis rushed for a career-high 255 yards and three touchdowns and two other Sea Gulls rushed for more than 100 yards each as host Salisbury (2-2, 1-1) downed Greensboro (1-2, 1-2) in Atlantic Central Conference action.
Mac Mollet ran for 108 yards and Reggie Boyce 106 for the Sea Gulls.
