Senior running back Scott Martorana rushed for a career-best 226 yards and scored three touchdowns - two rushing and one receiving - to power visiting Johns Hopkins past Swarthmore, 35-0, in a Centennial Conference football game yesterday.
Junior quarterback Rob Heleniak connected on 15 of 21 attempts for 121 yards and three touchdowns for the Blue Jays (1-1, 1-0). Heleniak threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Martorana for a 7-0 Hopkins lead with 4:31 left in the first quarter.
Martorana dived into the end zone from 8 yards out with 3:09 left in the second quarter for a 14-0 halftime advantage.
Heleniak completed two more touchdown passes in the second half, and Martorana added a 12-yard touchdown run at the 12:10 mark of the third quarter to ensure the win over the Garnet Tide (1-1, 0-1).
Western Maryland 45, Gettysburg 27: Teron Powell scored three second-quarter touchdowns to lead the host Green Terror (2-1, 1-2) past the Bullets (0-3, 0-1) in Centennial Conference action.
