The Carroll County Volunteer Firemen's Association's Prevention & Life Safety Committee is sponsoring its annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest for public school pupils in grades one through five.
Children must draw an original poster using the theme for their grade level: first grade, "Don't Play With Matches"; second, "Smoke Detectors"; third, "Kitchen Safety"; fourth, "Household Fire Safety"; and fifth, "Fire Extinguishers."
Deadline for entries is Wednesday. Posters must be turned in to the child's participating school or nearest fire station. Only one entry per child will be accepted, and posters will be divided by school for awards.
Posters are to be between 8 1/2 by 11 inches and 11 by 17 inches and must be hand drawn or painted. The back of the poster must list the child's full name, age, grade, school and home phone.
Posters become the property of the Firemen's Association and cannot be returned.
Winners will be announced before Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8-14. Winning posters will be displayed at TownMall of Westminster that week.
Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Pleasant Valley fire hall. Each school grade will have a first-place winner who will compete for the grand prize in their grade level.
