African-American Cultural Festival
Celebrate the rich history of Baltimore County's African-American community Saturday at the Towson Courts Plaza. Learn all about the county's 40 historically black communities and the legendary buffalo soldiers. Browse information booths and enjoy musical performers, including the Dazz Band, the Bar-Kays and Con Funk Shun. There will also be children's activities, including a performance by the Kinderman, arts and crafts exhibits, a small-business marketplace, free legal advice and more.
The festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Towson Courts Plaza, 400 Washington Ave., Towson. Free. Call 410-887-5557.
A musical 'Aladdin' takes to Pumpkin stage
The musical "Aladdin" opens the Pumpkin Theatre's 33rd season this weekend at St. Timothy's School for Girls in Stevenson. The show, directed and choreographed by Tom Wyatt, stars Matt Morris in the title role and Evyo Johnson as the genie. Other featured actors include Melanie Hopkins, Julie Herber, Dennis Wood, Madeline Amato and Bill Yarborough.
Performances are this Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 23 and 24) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at St. Timothy's School for Girls, 8400 Greenspring Ave., Stevenson. Sign-language interpretation 3 p.m. Sept. 17. $10; $8 in advance. Call 410-828-1814.
