Shots fired outside nightclub in Glen Burnie; man arrested

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Four gunshots were fired outside a crowded Glen Burnie nightclub early yesterday, and the only person known to have been wounded - a 21-year-old man hit in the arm - was also the only suspect arrested, county police reported.

The incident occurred outside Club Rumblefish, in the 7900 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., where police were dispatched for "a possible riot" and gunshots shortly before 2 a.m.

Rather than a riot, said Officer Charles Ravenell, a police spokesman, "it was just people scurrying to get out of there."

Steven Jones of the 1700 block of Ritchfield Drive in Severn was arrested at North Arundel Hospital, where he had gone for treatment for a wound to his upper right forearm, police said.

Jones was being held in lieu of $100,000 cash bail yesterday at the county detention center on Jennifer Road. Charges against him include reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm.

He told police that he did not have a weapon, Ravenell said.

Police said witnesses told them that Jones was the only person they had seen with a handgun.

No one else in the crowd of about 300 people leaving the club was reported injured by the shots, Ravenell said.

Witnesses told officers that a fight occurred before the shooting began. Police said they did not know what prompted the dispute or the gunfire.

No one from Club Rumblefish, which is closed on Mondays, was available for comment yesterday.
