Job fair expected to draw nearly 100 businesses, agencies

Close to 100 businesses and government agencies are expected to take part in a job fair Thursday afternoon at Glen Burnie Mall.

The free event offers opportunities for people seeking entry-level jobs and for those in the work force, and seminars to brush up on job-application skills.

Interviewing techniques will be the subject of a program at 11:30 a.m. - half an hour before the fair formally opens - and a program on improving resumes will be offered at 1:30 p.m. The fair ends at 4 p.m.

Among the employers registered to participate are Arundel Mills, the mall that is scheduled to open in November, retail businesses, banks, Verizon Wireless, hotels, temporary employment agencies, and police and prison agencies.

Fair sponsors include Anne Arundel Community College; the Professional Outplacement Assistance Center; the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation/Division of Rehabilitation Services; the Business and Workforce Development Center of Anne Arundel County Inc.; the Department of Social Services/Job Service Employer Committee; the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce; and the county YWCA.

Information, 410-424-1329 or 410-315-8873. Accommodations for the disabled can be arranged by calling 410-424-1329 or Maryland Relay 711.

Occupational health company moves clinic

Concentra Medical Centers, an occupational health care company that focuses on workers' compensation cost containment, has announced the relocation of its Glen Burnie-area clinic from Airport Park Road to larger quarters nearby at 811 Cromwell Park Drive.

The new site houses fully equipped injury-care rooms, X-ray services and comprehensive on-site physical-therapy services, the company said.

Concentra offers employers and employees drug screening, physicals, flu shots, injury care, physical therapy and many other work-related services.

The company operates the nation's largest network of occupational health care facilities, with 216 centers in 32 states.

It has nine clinics in Central Maryland and a regional headquarters in Jessup.

One-day workshops on business to be offered

One-day workshops "How to Start and Manage Your Own Business" and "Let's Prepare a Business Plan" will be offered in Annapolis this month by the area's Chapter 390 of the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

Starting a business program will be presented from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19, and the business plan program will be from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26. Both will be in the Chesapeake Room of the Heritage Office Complex at 2664 Riva Road.
