Anaheim has stumbled badly in the wild-card race, with a season-high six consecutive losses before edging the Detroit Tigers, 1-0, on Wednesday behind Schoeneweis and 6-4 last night. The Angels are trailing the Cleveland Indians by 6 1/2 games. Wise lasted only 2 1/3 innings in Tuesday's start, allowing seven runs and seven hits. The Angels are 5-3 against the Orioles this season, including a split of a two-game series in Anaheim in mid-May. Schoeneweis gave up a homer to Brady Anderson in a 7-6 loss on May 2, and two homers to Albert Belle in a 4-3 loss on June 16. Mussina won that game, allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings. That made up for his May 4 outing, when he permitted six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. Mo Vaughn took him deep in an 8-5 loss. The Angels have added outfielder Ron Gant since the last time these teams met. Closer Troy Percival, who blew a save at Camden Yards on May 2, was activated from the disabled list on Aug. 26 after missing 18 games with elbow tendinitis.
