Teddy Bear Frolic
Children, bring your favorite teddy bear to show off in three different contests Saturday at the 17th Annual Teddy Bear Fall Frolic at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, York Road in Timonium. You will be asked to talk about and show your teddy on stage. Adult collectors and bear makers have seven classes to enter their favorite treasures - best dressed, best character, best miniature, best hand-made, best antique, best friend of teddy and best artist bear.
Throughout the day, teddy bear collectors of all ages can buy, sell, adopt and trade their teddies and related accessories. And expert bear and stuffed toy appraisals will be available. There's also plenty of food to fuel bear enthusiasts, and door prizes are given every half hour.
The bear frolic takes place in the Exhibition Hall. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, free for children under 12. Call 410-252-5192.
Take a journey through "Body Odyssey" at Port Discovery and learn where burbs come from. The museum's newest interactive exhibit, which opens Saturday, offers families the opportunity to explore the scientific and, to a kid's delight, sometimes unsavory aspects of the human body. "Body Odyssey's" unconventional approach to learning about health incorporates multi-media art forms in a variety of activity stations. Kids can climb up a giant tongue and work their way through the digestive system, shooting stomach acid and helping food chum through miles of intestines. And educational computer games let kids fight body invaders. For parents, the exhibit offers the latest information on family health, fitness, nutrition and emotional well-being.
Port Discovery is at 35 Market Place near Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Admission is $10, $7.50 ages 3-12 and free under 3. Call 410-727-8120.
