Two former Severna Park standouts in Meghan Miller and Lindsey Nauman, each of whom was a member of The Sun's 18th Annual All-County Academic-Athletic Team last school year, were named high school Lacrosse Academic All-Americans last week.
Miller just began her collegiate career at Duke while Nauman just started at Vanderbilt, and each is well-prepared for the rigors of being an NCAA student athlete.
Also playing basketball and soccer, Miller maintained a 4.0 grade-point average while earning 11 varsity letters and received the Falcons' George Roberts Student Athlete of the Year Award.
Nauman, who had a 3.70 GPA, earned 10 varsity letters in basketball, soccer and lacrosse.
University of Maryland graduate and active Terrapin Club member, Bernie Walter did not land the Terps head baseball coaching position and will remain at Arundel as athletic director and baseball coach.
Walter, who is 58, lost out to 34-year old Terry Rupp, who coached Division II University of Tampa the past five years
Former Severna Park second-team All-County(1997) right-handed pitcher Darryl DeSalvo, who pitched the last three years at Radford (Va.) University, sparkled in the Cape Cod League this summer and will transfer to the University of Arizona in January to pitch his senior year for the Wildcats in Tucson
North County's All-County third baseman-first baseman Rich Guarnera has changed his mind about playing at Indiana and will instead attend Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.
The North County basketball duo of Jerome Goodman (All-County) and Mark Jennings (second-team All-County) will continue playing together at Hagerstown Junior College.
Dave Lombardi, who has been at the school for five years coaching several sports, replaced Fred Kramer as athletic director at St. Mary's.
Kramer resigned after a year on the job.
Former county board of education president Tom Twombly, a Pasadena resident, is the new JV girls soccer coach at Archbishop Spalding and his son, C.J. Twombly, made the Northeast varsity as a freshman.
