Pipe bombs found in home of P.G. boy

TEMPLE HILLS - Prince George's County authorities were investigating yesterday what a 13-year-old boy allegedly planned to do with 21 pipe bombs found in his home.

The bomb squad and other investigators arrived at the apartment complex where the boy lived late Monday after an explosion blew out windows and damaged a parked vehicle. No one was hurt.

"Had they been close to a person, it could have very well caused significant bodily harm to that individual or even killed them," said Chief Ron Sarnicki of the Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Investigators said that during a search that lasted all night and through the early afternoon, the devices were found inside the second-floor garden apartment the boy shared with his mother, who was questioned by arson investigators.

"She has indicated she was not aware this was going on," Sarnicki said. But he added that the investigation was continuing.
