Preseason Top 15


1. Centennial

Last season: 18-2, ranked No. 1

Skinny: The Eagles have won more state titles (nine) than any other team, and are going for their fifth straight behind junior Lindsay Feller and senior Carolyn Dougherty.

2. Dulaney

Last season: 20-0, No. 3

Skinny: The Lions, who return four players with starting experience, haven't lost a game to a Baltimore County opponent in two years.

3. Severna Park

Last season: 15-4, No. 4

Skinny: The Falcons have won five straight Anne Arundel County titles and 11 out of the last 13, and are favored again this season behind first-year coach Justin McCabe.

4. Mount Hebron

Last season: 12-4, No. 6

Skinny: The Vikings will start a freshman setter, but seniors Allison Pikounis and Norah Burdette should provide leadership on and off the court.

5. River Hill

Last season: 18-3, No. 2

Skinny: The Hawks graduated their top two hitters, but the experience of setter Sarah Albert and the height of sisters Krystal Jacobson (6-0, junior) and Stephanie Jacobson (6-1, freshman) will make them competitive.

6. Francis Scott Key

Last season: 17-3, No. 5

Skinny: Class 2A state finalists last season, the Eagles have four-year setter Carrie Ness and 6-foot hitters Samantha Stambaugh and Adria Stonesifer.

7. Arundel

Last season: 13-4, No. 13

Skinny: A trio of three-year starters - Leslie Chandler, Kelly Moore and Melissa Scott - will make the Wildcats tough to beat.

8. Broadneck

Last season: 10-3, No. 7

Skinny: The Bruins, whose three losses last season were to Severna Park, will challenge the Falcons again behind setter Nicole Barr.

9. Towson

Last season: 16-4, No. 10

Skinny: The Generals should be strong again despite having only two seniors.

10. C. Milton Wright

Last season: 17-1, No. 11

Skinny: All-Harford County seniors Hayley North and Elizabeth Anderson will lead the Mustangs.

11. Bel Air

Last season: 12-5, NR

Skinny: Bobcats return starters Nadia Mohandeffi and Megan Arnold from team that reached Class 3A state semifinals.

12. Catonsville

Last season: 14-4, No. 14

Skinny: A mix of returning veterans and newcomers from a solid junior varsity team will key the Comets.

13. Mercy

Last season: 13-6, NR

Skinny: Experience and depth should improve the Magic's fortunes this season.

14. McDonogh

Last season: 14-2, No. 12

Skinny: Despite having only two seniors, sophomore setter Jessy Morgan and her teammates should be good again.

15. Western

Last season: 13-3, NR

Skinny: Senior Ericka Butler hopes to carry the Doves to a fourth straight city title.
