More than Fair

Perhaps the best thing about the Maryland State Fair VIP Reception was the break it provided for pooped parents. The buffet dinner's relaxed atmosphere inside the Maryland State Fair Vista Room provided a perfect refuge from the Fair's pre-opening "Ridemania" night when all of the carnival rides were up and running. The scene was a constant stream of kids bouncing into the room -- balloons bobbing behind them -- followed by frazzled-looking older folks often making a beeline for a beer.

Among the 320 guests relishing the recess: F. Grove Miller, Maryland State Fair president; Max Mosner, Fair vice president and general manager; John Stewart, Schmidt Baking Company vice president; Paul Deblinger, Nutramax Laboratories advertising director; Dennis Broderick, The Bees Distributing Co., Inc.; Randy Robey, Carrollton Bank senior vice president and chief financial officer; Charlie Rentz, The William Scotsman hot air balloon pilot; John Addison, pilot of Esskay Meats pig hot air balloon; Alvin Johnson, Nutramax Laboratories production supervisor; Stephanie Becker, Central Atlantic Toyota administrative assistant; Reuben Scribner, General Motors machine operator; and Trisha Tatam, events and publications coordinator for Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University.
