Baltimore native Matt Tirschman (Overlea, Salisbury State), the 1996-97 Rookie of the Year with the former Spirit and a forward who posted 83 points in 44 games for the NPSL champion Milwaukee Wave last season, was named to the 12-member U.S. national team that opens play Friday in quest of the world futsal (indoor soccer) title.
The U.S. squad, coached by the Wave's Keith Tozer, will play in the North and Central America and the Caribbean regional tournament in Heredia, Costa Rica.
The U.S. team is defending champion in the quadrennial event, from which two national teams will advance to the 16-team FIFA world futsal championships in Guatemala in November.
