Pier D face lift set to be finished by end of the year

A face lift on Baltimore-Washington International Airport's Pier D is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, according to airport officials.

Work in progress includes installing skylights to brighten the area with natural light, wall covering and carpeting.

The renovation also upgrades the fire sprinkler system and the roof.

The airport planned that most of the work be conducted at off-peak times.

To minimize customer inconvenience, temporary walls shielding passengers from noise and dust have been constructed.

Southwest increasing flights to Las Vegas

Southwest Airlines is increasing the number of daily flights between BWI and Las Vegas, Nashville, Tenn., Phoenix and Indianapolis starting Aug. 6, airport officials said.

The new schedule will bring the total number of daily nonstop Southwest flights from BWI to all sites the airlines serves to 110.

In other airline news, Air Jamaica has recently begun wide-body service from BWI to Montego Bay using A310 aircraft.

Sampling of photo exhibit is available on Web site

A sampling of the Maryland Historical Society's first traveling exhibition, "Maryland In Focus," which opened last week at BWI, is available on the airport's Web site, officials said Friday.

The exhibit, sponsored by the society, Maryland 2000 and the Maryland Aviation Administration, is designed to expose travelers to this area. Four works were posted last week on the airport's Web site, www.bwiairport.com.
