Provident Bank opens branch in Westminster
Provident Bank of Maryland will open a branch today at the Westminster Shoppers Food Warehouse in 140 Village Shopping Center.
The food store bank branch will be a full-service office with an automated teller machine, officials said.
Provident is the second-largest independent commercial bank headquartered in Maryland. This is its first branch in Westminster.
Hampstead mayor to speak on town's business, future
Hampstead Mayor Christopher M. Nevin will discuss the town's business, goals and future at a breakfast 8 a.m. July 25 at A Grand Affair in Hampstead.
The event is part of Carroll County Chamber of Commerce's "2000 Tour of Carroll County." Nevin plans to discuss a town bypass, improving services, infrastructure, water quality and Main Street revitalization.
The cost is $10 per person. Reservations are required by July 19.

The Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center will offer workshops and programs to help individuals seeking a job or a new career.
How to Negotiate: Learn to discuss salary during an interview, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 24.
Start Networking Now: Learn to network to find a job, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 24.
Professional Cover Letters and Resumes: Learn to write a proper cover letter and resume, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 25. The resumes will be examined from 9 a.m. to noon July 27.

Investing workshops offered for women
The Women's Business Institute will offer a three-part workshop, "Investing for Women," from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20 and 27 at Hagerstown Community College.
The workshop will show women how to invest with as little as a few dollars a week. Participants also will learn to manage debt and become debt-free.

A one-day workshop on "Developing Successful Grants" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 19 at the Farmers & Mechanics National Bank headquarters in Frederick.
Participants will learn to identify funding sources, develop a comprehensive grant writing process, create grant writing teams and use statistical sources to document needs.
