Jewelry worth $20,000 stolen from antiques store
About $20,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from an Eldersburg antiques store last week, according to Maryland State Police.
Police said the theft at Antiques Bought and Sold, 6400 S. Liberty Road, occurred between June 26 and 28. The thief or thieves entered the store through an unlocked door, police said.
In addition to stealing 15 pieces of jewelry, which were stored in a locked case, a key to a cabinet was taken, police said.
Gate House Museum open three days a week
The Sykesville Gate House Museum of History is open to visitors three days a week this summer.
Hours are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays.
The museum also will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday during the Family Fun Day and Music Festival.

Fun Day, Music Festival set Saturday in Sykesville
Sykesville Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Family Fun Day and Music Festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Park.
The event will feature music, food, a petting zoo, children's activities and entertainment. Children can "Chalk It Up" in a sidewalk drawing event. Pony rides will be available for $1.50.
The first 100 children to arrive will receive a free beanie animal, provided by the Sykesville Business Exchange. Adults can receive a bag of promotional items and coupons from Ladies Home Journal.
Performers will include the Eldersburg Library Drill Team, Carroll County Cloggers, Deanna Dove and David Ashman, Jim Buckley, the Old Line Statesmen Chorus, No Drinks for Jimmy, the Northern Lights, the Steve Hill Band and the Cheese Police.

Presbyterian church plans Vacation Bible School
Springfield Presbyterian Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through July 14 at 7300 Spout Hill Road, Sykesville.
Children who will be 4 years old by Dec. 31 through sixth grade are welcome. Parents and teen helpers also are needed.
The theme is "A People on the Move," featuring "time travel" back to the Old Testament of Moses and Miriam. Crafts, games and music will be included.
For adults, a free class in "Love and Logic" will be offered Monday through Thursday.
The program will conclude with a family picnic at 6 p.m. July 14. Visitors and friends are welcome.

Finksburg council to hold trash pickup on Route 91
The Finksburg Planning Area Council will have a trash pickup along Route 91 on Saturday.
Members and volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Roy Rogers in Finksburg Plaza. Bring gloves and a water bottle.
Anyone interested in helping pick up highway litter is welcome.

Evangelist will speak at church in Westminster
Evangelist Gerald Mayhan will speak at the 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. worship services Sunday at the First Assembly of God in Westminster.
Mayhan and his wife, Phyllis, who will offer her testimony, were married in 1969. While serving in Vietnam, he began using drugs that would control his life for 18 years. In 1989, he entered the Teen Challenge Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program, where he overcame his addition and saved his marriage.
He received his evangelist credentials through the Assemblies of God and preaches in prisons, holds revivals and attends camp meetings. He also is a street minister, preaching in cities including Washington and Alexandria, Va.
