Sykesville department's Family Fun Day, Music Festival set Sunday at Cooper Park

Sykesville Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Family Fun Day & Music Festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Park.

The event will feature music, food, a petting zoo, children's activities and entertainment. Children can "Chalk It Up" in a sidewalk drawing event. Pony rides will be available for $1.50.

The first 100 children to arrive will receive a free beanie animal, provided by the Sykesville Business Exchange. Adults can receive a goodie bag of promotional items and coupons from Ladies Home Journal.

Performers will include the Eldersburg Library Drill Team, Carroll County Cloggers, Deanna Dove and David Ashman, Jim Buckley, The Old Line Statesmen Chorus, No Drinks for Jimmy, the Northern Lights, The Steve Hill Band and The Cheese Police.

Eldersburg library offers Book Club on Saturday

The Eldersburg branch library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, is offering the following events:

Eldersburg Book Club for ages 17 and older, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. "Ladder of Years" by Anne Tyler will be discussed. No registration is required.

"Basic Internet Training: What Is the Internet and What Can It Do for Me?" for ages 18 and older, at 2 p.m. July 19. Registration begins Wednesday.

Talent Express Dance Studio's "Rhythm, Energy, Ambitious, Dance," at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. July 14 for ages 3 and older. Parents are welcome. No registration is required.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's "Gluskabi and the Wind," for ages 5 and older, at 7 p.m. July 11. Musician Nancy Stagnitta will introduce the sound of Native American flutes and their place in that culture. The interactive presentation uses music, movement and sound effects. No registration is required.

"Storytelling From the Hill" for all ages (recommended for 5 and older; 3 and younger must be with an adult), at 10:30 a.m. July 18. Graduate students from Western Maryland College will present a family storytelling concert. Registration begins Wednesday.

Solo Circus to be featured at Carrolltown Center

Carrolltown Center has announced events for July.

A Friday Night Family Series offers a variety of entertainment for all ages. Mandy the Clown's solo Circus will be held this week.

The Freedom Area Recreation Council and Health & Fitness at the mall will offer a seven-week shape-up class starting July 10. Classes include step, dance, toning, yoga and seniors programs. Baby-sitting is available. Information: 410-549-5583..

The Health & Fitness Center will offer an open house and weight management consultation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 14. Children's activities, such as face painting, a low-fat bake sale and tours of the newly remodeled studio, will be available. Information: Tracy Cox, 410-549-5583.
