Barge House Museum to receive $10,000 to fund bay exhibits
The Barge House Museum in Annapolis will receive $10,000 as part of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Initiative, a federal program to bolster the bay's natural, cultural and recreational resources.
The museum was one of the initiative's first 23 grant recipients announced last week, 10 of which are in Maryland.
The grant will help the Barge House create a waterfront access site and install interpretive exhibits focusing on bay oysters, according to an announcement by the office of U.S. Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes, a Maryland Democrat.
Team sign-up begins for Cancer Society golf event
The American Cancer Society is registering groups of women for its third annual Chesapeake Women's Golf Tournament to Fight Breast Cancer.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. July 17 at Crofton Country Club. The cost is $100 per player, which includes a post-tournament luncheon banquet.
Dedication flags can be purchased for $35 in honor of those touched by cancer. The flags will be placed on the 18th hole on the day of the tournament, proceeds of which benefit breast cancer research, early detection and prevention programs, and services for breast cancer patients and their families.

Artists sought to celebrate Quiet Waters Park
Artists are invited to enter their work for a Sept. 6 to Oct. 16 juried exhibition, "The Four Seasons of Quiet Waters," which will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the county park in Annapolis.
Works should interpret the park's seasonal changes.

County department holds amateur photo contest
The county Department of Recreation and Parks is holding its eighth annual amateur photography contest.
Photographs may be entered in four categories - people, nature, scenic, and open or general - and must have been taken in a county park or recreation facility. The submission deadline is Oct. 15.
