Man is charged in assault and indecent exposure

A North Laurel man was arrested by Howard County police on charges of assault, indecent exposure, resisting arrest and other offenses after a two-hour stand-off at a county motel Wednesday.

Police said they were called to a disturbance about 4:20 p.m. at the Valencia Motel, 10131 Washington Blvd. in North Laurel, where witnesses told them that a naked man had been burning money on the parking lot. The witnesses also said that the man had threatened them with a knife before barricading himself in his room.

Police surrounded the area and seized the man when he opened the room door about 6:10 p.m. In the room, police said, they found a compound bow, paintball rifle and numerous knives.

George William Morris, 48, formerly of the 10600 block Hunting Lane, was charged with first-degree assault, a deadly weapon violation, indecent exposure, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He was taken to a court commissioner and released on his own recognizance.

No one was injured in the incident.
