Woman injured in parkway crash still hospitalized

A highway worker was the only person who remained hospitalized yesterday from Tuesday's four-vehicle school bus accident near Linthicum that injured 22 people and halted traffic on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway for several hours.

Joyce M. Pulphus, 40, of Laurel had been spraying pesticide along the parkway when the school bus carrying 15 Washington-area children and camp counselors was hit in the rear by a van and overturned.

A car and a state Division of Correction van taking a convicted killer to a medical appointment in Baltimore also ran off the parkway as a result of the crash about 9 a.m.

Investigators have not determined which vehicle struck Pulphus, a contract worker for the State Highway Administration. She was listed in fair condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
