Columbia resident named public health deputy secretary

Columbia resident Arlene H. Stephenson has been appointed deputy secretary of Public Health Services at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Stephenson served as acting deputy secretary for Public Health Services. She will oversee six administrations, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Anatomy Board and 24 local health departments.

Ellicott City artist named CCBC professor emeritus

Ellicott City resident Ralph Baney has been named professor emeritus at the Dundalk campus of the Community College of Baltimore County. Baney, a sculptor and artist, was a professor of art at Dundalk for 23 years. He has exhibited work in England, Japan, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Amerix Corp. names Riess technology officer

Bob Riess has been named chief technology officer at the Columbia-based Amerix Corp., a service provider to the credit-counseling industry.

Riess will help the company reorganize and capitalize on the Internet and e-commerce tools.
