Oakland has a one-game lead over Seattle in the AL West and is a season-high 10 games above .500. The A's have won five in a row and nine of their past 11. Their road record (24-12) is the best in baseball, but their home mark (15-17) is the third worst. Oakland has won its past six series, the first time that's happened since 1990. The A's also began yesterday with the AL's second-worst batting average at .262, but they had scored the second-most runs with 401. And that was before a 21-3 shellacking of Kansas City yesterday. They were first in walks (330), fourth in home runs (100) and fifth in on-base percentage (.356). The Orioles are 3-2 against Oakland this season, winning twice at Network Associates Coliseum in late April. Mulder held the Orioles to two runs and four hits in seven innings of an April 23 start, when Oakland rallied for a 3-2 win in 11 innings. Mulder lasted only 5 1/3 innings in Baltimore on May 26, allowing six runs and 10 hits. The next night, Hudson blanked the Orioles on one hit over 7 1/3 innings.
