SOCCER MOMS, and no doubt players, will be happy to note that the Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association is gearing up for its fall season.
"We had about 200 players last year," said athletic association spokesman Adrian Scurto.
Children ages 4 to 8 are eligible to play in its coeducational intramural league. All intramural games will be played on the association's home field on 10th Avenue.
There will be separate boys and girls teams for children ages 9 to 14, which play games home and away.
No experience is necessary to sign up for soccer. Registration is taking place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the 10th Avenue Field through July 1. Practice sessions begin the last week of July, and the season starts at the end of August.
The fee is $40 for the first child in the family, $20 for the second child and $10 for the third child. There is also a $20 concession fee, which is refunded to parents who volunteer at the BPYAA stand for at least one game.

All that slithers
If you suffer from ophidiophobia (a fear of snakes), you are in good company - but there's a chance around town to overcome it.
As part of its summer reading program, the Brooklyn Park Library will play host to the Baltimore Zoo's Scaly Skins program at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Zoo educational specialist Ellen Wright will help dispel the many myths that surround reptiles and amphibians, with help from some of the zoo's portable inhabitants.
"We have over 100 different types of reptiles and amphibians in our zoo," said Beth Broadhurst, a curator. "We could bring lizards, snakes, frogs or gators to the program."
But, she noted, "This isn't just a show. It's designed to help people overcome their fears. It's interactive and a lot of fun."
Children of all ages, as well as adults, are welcome. There is no admission charge, but seating is limited.

Church Trustee Day
The annual Trustee Day Celebration at St. John United Methodist Church will take place at 4 p.m. June 25.
Guests will be the Rev. Richard Johnson III of First Christian Community Church in Annapolis and the First Christian Choir.
