Fire at video store drop box was arson, officials say

A fire in the night drop box of a Hampstead video store was deliberately set late Wednesday, state fire marshals said yesterday.

The fire, which caused about $2,000 in damage at Hampstead Video in the 4500 block of Lower Beckleysville Road, was discovered by a town police officer answering the store's fire alarm about 10:15 p.m., fire officials said.

Twenty volunteer firefighters from Hampstead, Manchester and two Baltimore County stations put the fire out in about five minutes, confining damage to the drop box and floor, fire marshals said.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the regional office of the state fire marshal in Westminster at 410-875-5450.
