Hot corner

Quote: "I just pitched the count. I felt good enough to pitch another inning or more, but they said I was over 100 [pitches] and it was time to go. I never dispute their decision." - Boston's Pedro Martinez, who was removed from yesterday's game against the Yankees after pitching the first six innings.

It's a fact: Detroit's 16-3 win over Toronto on Tuesday night was held up briefly in the first inning when Blue Jays' catcher Alberto Castillo caught a baby bird that was wandering between home plate and the pitchers' mound. The bird later was taken to the Huron Valley Bird Rescue Center.

Who's hot: In Chicago's 4-3, 10-inning win over Cleveland, the White Sox homered in a franchise-record 17th straight game.

Who's not: Minnesota pitchers walked eight in a 6-5 loss to Oakland, including two with the bases loaded.
