Phillies update
The Phillies entered the season with high hopes of being competitive in the tough National League East, and why not? They arrived in 2000 with three starting pitchers - Paul Byrd, Schilling and Ashby - who were named to the National League All-Star team last year. But Schilling missed the early weeks of the season recovering from a shoulder injury; Byrd has not been able to build on his breakthrough 1999 season and Ashby has struggled in his first year with the club. The three of them are a combined4-14 while tonight's starter, second-year left-hander Wolf, leads the rotation with five victories. The result has been a 22-35 record that ranks ahead of only the nosediving Houston Astros among the 16 National League teams. Tonight's series opener against the Phillies is the Orioles' first weeknight game of the year to start at 7:35 p.m. The Orioles schedule weeknight games at 7:05 p.m. in April and May and move the starting time back a half hour for June, July and August.
