Theatre on the Hill , a professional summer theater company in residence at Western Maryland College, has announced its 2000 season, which will include two family matinee favorites.
The schedule for the company's 18th season offers "Forever Plaid," "The Mousetrap," "The Rink" and matinee performances of "Snow White" and "Stuart Little."
"Forever Plaid," a musical for all ages, opens the season June 16.
The Plaids, four young singers who were killed in an auto accident on the way to their first big gig, are brought back to life to fulfill their stage dreams. The score features songs such as "Cry," "Lady of Spain" and "Three Coins in the Fountain."
The show is directed by Ray Ficca, who has appeared in numerous Theatre on the Hill shows. Ficca also is directing "Snow White," which opens June 24, and "Stuart Little," which opens July 15.
Opening July 7, "The Mousetrap," recommended for ages 13 and older, is a mystery by Agatha Christie. The play, which features a group of off-beat characters stranded in a remote rooming house during a blizzard, is one of the longest-running shows, in its 47th year on London's West End.
Hopes for a peaceful holiday are dashed when a guest is found murdered and everyone becomes a suspect. The whodunnit is directed by Elizabeth van den Berg, WMC assistant professor of theatre.
Also recommended for ages 13 and older is "The Rink," which opens July 21. Terence McNally, who also wrote "Kiss of the Spider Woman," weaves a mother-daughter reunion around their fading family roller rink. The musical drama features music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb.
Set in the late 1970s, the Tony Award-winning play is a story of forgiveness between mother and daughter. "The Rink" is directed by Josh Selzer.
Back this year after a one-year absence is the popular cabaret "Fabulous Post Show Revue," presented after all Saturday night shows beginning July 1. The free show features song, dance and comedy, Ticket prices vary for each production and money-saving season subscriptions are available.
