Devil Rays update

Winter changes haven't made much of a difference in the standings. The Devil Rays begin this series in last place in the AL East, with no chance of passing the Orioles even if they sweep the four games. They had lost four straight and eight of 10 before scoring11 runs in the eighth inning yesterday to beat Seattle. Tampa Bay batted .208 in its four previous games before busting out yesterday. No team in either league has a worse home record than Tampa Bay's 7-14. Orioles pitchers won't have to worry about Jose Canseco, who is on the disabled list with a strained left heel. Another slugger, Greg Vaughn, left Friday's game with a strained right hamstring and didn't play the rest of the weekend. The Devil Rays have had 14 games decided in the last inning, tops in the majors. They are 5-9 in those games. The Orioles defeated Tampa Bay, 3-2 and 8-4, in a rain-shortened series in April. Both teams will wear replica uniforms tonight, with the Orioles decked out in their 1969-70 duds.
