Tomorrow's finals At Joe Cannon Stadium
No.1 Fallston (20-1) vs. Damascus (20-0)
Outlook: Fallston routed Harford County rival Bel Air, 13-2, for the North region crown to avenge its only loss of the season. The Cougars, in their first state title game in school history, will send 6-foot-6, 215-pound right-hander Phil Akens (7-0) - whose fastball has been clocked at more than 90 mph - against the state's only unbeaten team, the Hornets. Damascus, from northern Montgomery County, is the Washington area's top-ranked team and won a state title in 1998. Pro prospect Corey Consuegra (SS/P) and P Joe Rice lead the Hornets.
No.14 Towson (18-4) vs. Walkersville (20-2)
Outlook: The Generals, from Baltimore County, enter their first state title game with two solid pitchers available -four-year veteran Mike Williams and Andre Gardner. Williams is 7-0 with one save and 61 strikeouts and a 1.33 ERA. Gardner is 6-2 with 104 strikeouts, a 1.50 ERA and, at one point this season, a state-record three straight no-hitters, one of them a perfect game. Walkersville, from Frederick County, is going for its third state title - second straight - on a 14-game winning streak. The team batting average is .330, and three pitchers are strong.
