Kiosks will provide community information

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce has announced it will be partners with the Sheraton Columbia and StaybridgeSuites to provide interactive kiosks.

The units will contain community calendars, area maps and information about where to eat, shop and play in the county. At the kiosk, the chamber Web site will include links to local sites of interest.

Space is available on the kiosks for members and nonmembers to promote their businesses.

Jessup company awarded $50,000 Rouse fund loan

The Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund (JREF) has provided a $50,000 loan to Advanced Finishes Inc.

The company produces powder coating steel and aluminum products in Jessup. The loan will be used to expand the business.

JREF grants loans of up to $100,000 to area start-up firms that promote employment growth.

Columbia Goddard School receives excellence award

The Goddard School in Columbia received a Goddard Circle of Excellence at the chain's convention, May 3-7.

The preschool, at 9100 Quarterstaff Roadin Columbia, is among five schools given the award. The preschool was also recognized for maintaining close to full occupancy throughout the year.

The national chain, headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa., operates child care centers in 11 states.

Explora World to offer free tickets for used books

Explora World, a children's discovery center in Columbia, will offer free admission to adults who donate a gently used children's book. All books will be donated to the Howard County Domestic Violence Center.
