Community college to hold commencement ceremony


Carroll Community College will hold commencement exercises for the 241 members of the Class of 2000 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Physical Education Learning Center at Western Maryland College in Westminster.

Jeffrey A. Sprinkle, vice president of distribution administration at Random House Inc., will be the guest speaker.

Sprinkle has been active in the Random House Book Fair to Benefit the CCC Foundation and in being an advocate for funds for the college's amphitheater and Learning Resources Center.

A Westminster native, Sprinkle graduated from Westminster High School in 1965.

He received his bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg in 1969, the same year he started working at Random House.

Processional music

The Monumental Brass Quintet will perform the processional and recessional music.

Evan Paul Walker, the community college music director, will lead the Carroll Community Chorus in a presentation, with Linda Filemyras accompanist.

Robert Condon, president of the Student Government Association, will give the student greeting.

Rebecca H. Harman of New Windsor will receive an honorary doctorate of public service degree.

College medals will be awarded to Steven Powell, Carroll County management and budget director; and Joseph Mason of Probst Mason Architects Inc., which designed the buildings for the college's campus.

Special recognition

Special recognition for academic achievement and participation on the All-USA Academic Team competition will be go to Maria A. Ciaravellaand Diane C. Flint.

President Faye Pappalardo and R. Delaine Hobbs, chairman of the board of trustees, will award diplomas to graduates.

Diane Flint, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, will give the student response, and Sharon Campbell Snyder, president of the alumni association, will preside over the investiture of the new alumni.
