Westminster Center plans dance, movie, bingo for USO Week

Westminster Senior Center will hold a USO Week with displays, movies, bingo and a dance.

The center will be decorated with World War II memorabilia during the month. "Babes on Broadway," starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, will be shown at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Refreshments will be served.

Prize bingo will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Cards will be 25 cents. A USO dance will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $5.

Vaudeville 2000 is theme of Community Jubilee

The annual Community Jubilee will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 at Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster.

Vaudeville 2000 will be the theme and will include a talent contest for all ages. Participants can be individuals or groups.

White elephant and craft vendors are needed for the event. The cost for a space is $20.

Bingo, line and tap dancing and music will be featured.

Mount Airy Senior Center at 703 Ridge Ave. has announced these activities:

Lou Rettberg will give a presentation on safety in the kitchen at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Singing Seniors will perform at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The center will be closed May 29 for Memorial Day.

Modern Western square dancing classes are forming. Call for details.

Pinochle card games start at 1 p.m. Mondays. All seniors are welcome.

'Bingo bash' scheduled at North Carroll center

North Carroll Senior Center at 2255 Hanover Pike has announced the following activities:

An educational talk on legal aid services will be given by Dan Bork of Legal Aid at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A bingo bash will be held 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31. Play bingo for prizes in the morning and regular bingo in the afternoon.

Massage therapy is offered Wednesday mornings by certified massage therapist Carroll Rankin.Appointments are required.

Bridge, pinochle players wanted at South Carroll

South Carroll Senior Center at 5745 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg, has announced these activities:

The bridge club is seeking new members. The club meets at 9 a.m. Fridays.

The center has started a pinochle group that plays at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

New classes are forming in ceramics, drawing and painting, tai chi, line dancing, tap dancing and exercise. A ballroom dancing class will be held 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and will cost $15 for 12 weeks.

Glass class starts soon at Taneytown Senior Center

Taneytown Senior Center at 220 Roberts Mill Road will offer activities for members.

Therapeutic massages will be offered beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays. The cost is $5 for 15 minutes and $10 for a half hour.

Couples country and western dancing lessons will be offered 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Fridays. All levels are welcome. The cost for 24 hours of instruction is $25.

A glass class will be held at 1 p.m. Mondays starting June 5. The cost for 12 hours of class time is $15.

Swing dance lessons for those age 60 and older will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. Cost for the eight-week class is $20.

Center plays host to woodshop group

Westminster Senior Center at 125 Stoner Ave. has announced the following activities:

A woodshop group meets from noon to 2 p.m. Fridays. Woodworking projects are available for groups or individuals. Cost is $1 plus materials.

Line dancing classes will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays to June 15. Cost will be $2 per session or $20 for the full 10 weeks.

A ballroom dance will be held for anyone interested from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 30. Cost will be $2 and refreshments will be served.

Super 60's plan 10-day trip to several Midwest sites

The Super 60'sof the Church of the Open Door will sponsor a summer trip June 6-16 to the Midwest.

Sites will include Sauder Village and its living museum; Chicago and the Gangster Tour; Wisconsin for a ride on the Dells boats, visit to House on the Rock; and Lost Canyon for a horse-drawn wagon ride.

The group will go to Mackinac Island for a two-night stay at the Island House, a renovated 1852 country inn. It will also travel to Frankenmuth, Mich., and visit Bonners Christmas Wonderland, then to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio.

Seniors In Action lists excursions for June

The Seniors In Action Recreation Council has planned the following trips:

June 6, mystery trip. Cost is $53 for members and $55.65 for nonmembers.

June 8, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra "Star Spangled" concert. Cost is $62 for members and $65.10 for nonmembers.

June 11, Morris Mechanic Theatre for "Cabaret," $80 for members and $85 for nonmembers.

North Carroll announces bus trip schedule

North Carroll Senior Center has announced these bus trips:

June 14: Capital Theatre, Chambersburg, Pa., to see "Country Music Jamboree" and have dinner at Dobbins House Restaurant in Gettysburg, Pa. The cost is $44.50.

July 14-16: German Sudsand Songs, three days, two nights, two breakfasts and dinners, plus a dinner show at Forest Willow, luncheon, cruise and LaComedia Dinner Theatre. Includes a tour of Cincinnati, northern Kentucky and Oldenberg Brewery. Cost is $300 a person for double occupancy, $360 for single. Information: 410-374-2602.
