A gunman burst into a Southwest Baltimore apartment early yesterday and killed a 25-year-old man and critically wounded a 53-year-old woman during an apparent robbery attempt, city police said.
The man, armed with a silver-colored handgun, entered an apartment in the 4900 block of Frederick Ave. about 2 a.m. and demanded money from the man and his girlfriend, who were in one of the bedrooms. The man went with the intruder into a hallway, where he was shot to death, police said.
The gunman then entered another bedroom and shot Lardais Lemon, the mother of the man's girlfriend. Lemon was in critical condition last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.
Police withheld identification of the dead man yesterday, pending notification of kin.
Two other fatal shootings occurred yesterday, bringing the city's homicide count this year to 116. At this time last year, 89 homicides had been reported.
At 1: 17 a.m., two people were shot in the 2200 block of E. Eager St. in what police said might have been a drug dispute.
William Douglas Sippio, 25, of the 600 block of N. Luzerne Ave. was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 15-year-old Raymond Timothy Comegys, 15, of the 500 block of Ellwood Ave., was in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
A 25-year-old man was shot to death in the 1900 block of Greenmount Ave. about 1: 50 a.m. in a possible robbery attempt, police said.
The victim, whom police did not identify pending notification of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
