Mount Airy prepares for Spring Fling


MOUNT AIRY'S annual Spring Fling will fill the streets of downtown Mount Airy from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. May 20.

Come rain or shine, this event will feature a wide variety of items, food and entertainment for the family.

The downtown block of Main Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Booths, tables and displays will be set up for crafts people, plants and flowers, a petting zoo, raffles, contests, demonstrations, face painting and food.

The kids can enjoy games and rides, as well as musical entertainment, local and street performers and the popular hayride through Mount Airy.

Shuttle buses will be available from the Mount Airy carnival grounds at Twin Arch Road and Route 27 from 7: 30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

CPR training

Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company will provide Heart SaverCPR training to the public from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 20.

Country western dancing

The Country Western Dance Connection invites you to attend its Monday night dance lessons from 7: 30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Mount Airy Senior Center on Ridge Avenue.

Lessons will be given for the Barn Dance, Circle Twenty, El Paso, Sixteen Step, Cowgirl Hustle, Down & Dirty, Ski Bumpus, Tush Push, Watermelon Crawl, Cowboy Charleston and others.

Dance Party Friday Nights also will be featured at the Senior Center from 8 p.m. until midnight every Friday.

Cost is $3 for regular dance attendees and $5 for first-time attendees.

Talent show

South Carroll High School's Stagelighters will present "Kaleidoscope of Talent" at 7 p.m. May 19 and 20 in the school auditorium.

More than 60 students and faculty members will be featured in the talent show.

Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society in memory of South Carroll student Greg Hladky and in the name of the South Carroll Stagelighters.

Carol Klem, Patti Hillmuth, Bobbi Baker and Heather Weisse will direct the show. Technical directors are Billy Hillmuth, Stephanie Luette, and Katie Ruark.

Admission is $3.

Girl Scout registration

Registration for girls to join a Girl Scout troop will be held at 7 p.m. May 19 in the Mount Airy Elementary School cafeteria.

Girls from kindergarten to grade 12 are eligible to join.

Troops are forming in Carroll County for the fall.
