A fast-growing Dallas concrete landscape company said yesterday that it will build a $10 million manufacturing plant near Hagerstown that will create about 100 jobs.
Pavestone Co., which makes products such as retaining walls and patio stones, is scheduled to break ground next week on the facility.
The company plans to build a 30,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and a 5,000-square-foot office building on the Western Maryland site, adjacent to Interstate 81. Pavestone bought enough land -- more than 21 acres -- for a three-fold expansion, should it be needed.
"Our company has grown 49 percent every year for the past five years, and we plan to build four to five plants every year for the next five years," said Mike Lebo, general manager of the Hagerstown facility. "This plant is No. 14."
Privately held Pavestone employs more than 1,000 and expects to have sales this year in excess of $175 million.
Lebo said about 80 of the employees will work on the manufacturing side - earning about $9 to $14 an hour - and the balance will work in the office. The company offers profit sharing and a 401(k) retirement plan in addition to a health-care plan.
Pavestone will begin hiring around August, and expects the plant to be up and running by Nov. 1.
