Bureau of the Census seeks workers in Carroll County; Employees will work in their communities and set their own hours


The Bureau of the Census is giving tests for potential census takers, crew leaders and office clerks for the 2000 Census weekdays and some Saturdays around the county.

The bureau needs people to help make sure everyone is counted in the 2000 Census in Carroll County.

Census workers work in their own community, set their own hours and can be reimbursed for authorized expenses. All positions are paid competitive wages.

Although making an appointment to take the test is recommended, walk-ins are welcome. Candidates should bring two forms of identification.

Test times and locations are:

2 p.m. every Monday through next month at Maryland Job Service, 125 Airport Drive, Westminster.

10 a.m. Monday and May 15, 2 p.m. May 11 and 25 and 7 p.m. May 18 at New Windsor Presbyterian Church, High and Church streets.

6 p.m. Mondays May 8 through 29; 10 a.m. Wednesdays through next month; and 2 p.m. May 13 and 20 in the community room at Carrolltown Center, Liberty Road, Eldersburg.

6 p.m. Monday and May 8, 15, 22; and 2 p.m. May 6, 13, 27 at Mount Airy branch library, 705 Ridge Ave.

9 a.m. every Tuesday through next month at the Department of Social Services, 10 Distillery Drive, Westminster.

5 p.m. every Tuesday and 9 a.m. every Thursday through next month at the Business and Employment Resource Center, 224 N. Center St., Westminster.

10 a.m. every Tuesday through next month at Union Bridge Town Hall, 104 W. Locust St.

2 p.m. Tuesday and May 9 and 16 at Hampstead Town Hall, 1034 S. Carroll St.

1 p.m. Tuesday and May 9 at Sykesville Town Hall, 7547 Main St.

10 a.m. Wednesday and May 10, 17 and 24 at Manchester Town Hall, 3208 York St.

1 p.m. May 10, 24, 31; 10 a.m. May 5 and 19 at St. Mary's Lutheran Church, 3978 Littlestown Pike, Silver Run.

6 p.m. every Wednesday through next month at South Carroll Senior Center, 5745 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.

2 p.m. Wednesday and May 17, 24, 31 at Westminster branch library, 50 E. Main St.

6 p.m. Wednesday and May 10, 17 and 24 at North Carroll High School cafeteria, 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead.

10 a.m. May 17 at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, administration building, off Old New Windsor Pike.

10 a.m. Thursday and May 25 at Eldersburg branch library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive.
