Weekend at Pimlico



While the $200,000 Federico Tesio Stakes highlights the card, Maryland breds will also be featured in four other stakes events. The 20th running of the Star de Naskra, a $60,000 event carded as the fifth race, hails the return of the Dumbarton Farm colt Crafty Celt.

The 3-year-old son of Opening Verse left the scene last December after winning the Maryland Juvenile Championship. He has been training superbly for his first start of the season. Perfect to a Tee may wind up a slight favorite for the 60th running of the $100,000 Jennings Handicap. The son of Partfaitment, second in last year's renewal, will tote 121 pounds and face Such worthy opponents as Crosspatch, Main Quest and Eastover.

Case of the Blues, unbeaten in three stakes events at Laurel this year, is the clear-cut choice for the Caesar's Wish Stakes, also set for its 20th running. The $75,000 event will test 3-year-old fillies at 11/16-miles.

Case of the Blues kicked of the year by winning the Jameela Stakes then added the Landaura and Wide Country to her accomplishments. By far the most experienced of the group, she is also the lone stakes winner in the field. The Geisha Handicap, set for its 28th running, has lured six fillies and mares, including trainer Richard Small's entry of Proud Owner and Tookin Down. Both are stakes winners.

They finished one-two in both the Maryland Racing Writers Stakes and Snow Goose Handicap, but, when shipped to Aqueduct for the Grade 3 Next Move Handicap, they wound up among the also rans.

Tomorrow Pimlico will be dark in observance of Easter.
