Today's games

ACC semifinals

No. 12 North Carolina (7-4) vs. No. 1 Virginia (8-1)

Site: Byrd Stadium, College Park

Time: 6 p.m.

Skinny: Virginia has won eight straight since losing its season opener to Syracuse in overtime. Carolina has lost four of its last five since opening the season at 6-0. Only an upset would appear to leave the Tar Heels with a chance to make the NCAA tournament, and they won't see a tougher offense than the one the Cavaliers present.

No. 9 Maryland (7-3) vs. No. 8 Duke (8-3)

Site: Byrd Stadium, College Park

Time: 8 p.m. approximately

Radio: WMUC (88.1 FM)

Skinny: Duke has recovered since going through a scoring slump earlier this season, which included a surprising loss at Brown. The Terps are hoping to recover from last week's 20-11 rout at Johns Hopkins, which scored more goals against Maryland than anyone has since Virginia beat the Terps, 23-12, in 1981, three years before coach Dick Edell took over.

Other games

No. 4 Loyola (8-1) at Butler (4-6)

Site: Butler Bowl, Indianapolis

Time: 4 p.m.

Skinny: One week after scoring 21 goals against a respectable UMass squad, the Greyhounds should have little problem with the Bulldogs. Tim Goettelmann and Gavin Prout are playing as well as any scoring combination in the game.

Towson (2-7) at Vermont (3-5)

Site: Centennial Field, Burlington, Vt.

Time: 3: 30 p.m.

Skinny: The Tigers need to win to ensure themselves a no. 4 seed in the America East tournament, which begins on May 4 and will send the winner into the NCAAs with an automatic qualifier. This marks the Tigers' fourth game in the past seven days.
