At new home, Tigers may get cold reception

DETROIT -- Who will rise to the occasion?

Who will be Robert Fick today?

What member of the Detroit Tigers or the Seattle Mariners will provide the defining and decisive moment of the Comerica Park inaugural -- as Fick did in the Tiger Stadium finale?

On Sept. 27, with the Tigers leading the Kansas City Royals by two runs in the eighth inning, Fick clinched the victory in the Tigers' last game at the old yard. In just his 54th big-league at-bat, he rocketed a grand slam off the Tiger Stadium roof.

The ball then fell back to the field fell like a solitary snowflake. Unfortunately, there might be many snowflakes falling on the field today before and after the scheduled first pitch at 1: 05 p.m.

As much as 2 to 4 inches are forecast for this morning.

But the Tigers sound ready to start the game in anything short of forbidding snow or rain. If the game is postponed, it might be made up tomorrow afternoon as part of a day-night doubleheader.
