Three children suffer smoke inhalation in townhouse fire
ROSEDALE -- Three siblings -- a 12-year-old girl and seven-year-old twins -- suffered smoke inhalation when a fire broke out yesterday at their townhouse in the first block of Morning Court, authorities said. The children's parents were not at home.
One of the twins -- a boy -- was held overnight for observation at Franklin Square Hospital Center, said Lt. Glenn Blackwell of the fire department. Blackwell said one of the children, playing with matches inside a second-floor bedroom closet, caused the fire, which was reported at 6: 23 p.m.
Blackwell said the fire was confined to the second floor and caused $40,000 damage. It was not immediately known where the parents were when the fire occurred.
Community college to hold job fair at Essex campus
ESSEX -- Representatives from about 100 businesses and agencies will be on hand for Spring Job Fair 2000 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Community College of Baltimore County's Essex campus.
The event is free and is sponsored by the college, the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, the county Office of Employment and Training, the Eastern Baltimore Area Chamber of Commerce and the Essex-Middle River Chamber of Commerce.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring resumes and be prepared for interviews.
Musical sign language class for children starting today
DUNDALK -- A musical sign language class for children age 9 and older will be offered from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at North Point Government Center, 7701 Wise Ave., from today through May 3.
The program is sponsored by the county Department of Recreation and Parks, Office of Therapeutic Services. Participants will learn how to sign songs using American Sign Language.

Loch Raven Fishing Center opens for season Friday
PROVIDENCE -- The Loch Raven Fishing Center opens for the season on Friday.
The center is a 10-minute drive from Interstate 695 on Dulaney Valley Road. It features boat and canoe rentals and bait and fishing license sales.
The center operates through November and is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Information: 410-887-7692.

Miss Baltimore pageant set Sunday at shopping center
The ninth annual Miss Baltimore Scholarship Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in the center court of Reisterstown Road Plaza shopping center, 6564 Reisterstown Road in Northwest Baltimore.
A second young woman will be crowned Miss Baltimore County at the event. Both winners will compete in the Miss Maryland Pageant in Hagerstown in June.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. According to the pageant's organizers, a portion of ticket sales will be contributed to scholarship funds for participants. Information: 410-744-3901.
Screenings for alcoholism to be offered tomorrow
Free, anonymous screenings for alcohol dependency will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at two downtown locations.
