Cal Ripken, Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Harold Baines, Brooks Robinson and legendary manager Earl Weaver were honored as the Orioles of the Century and introduced during pre-game ceremonies.
Cal Ripken blooped a double into right field in the second inning for his first hit of the season and 2,992nd of his career. The crowd cheered enthusiastically when the number was unfurled on the wall of the B&O; warehouse.
Orioles ace Mike Mussina took a two-hitter into the eighth inning, but those two hits were bases-empty home runs -- enough to overcome a light Orioles offensive performance.
Indians shortstop Omar Vizquel made a spectacular diving catch to rob Delino DeShields of an RBI hit in the seventh inning.
Orioles first baseman Will Clark singled in the fourth inning to extend his Opening Day hitting streak to 14 games. The only time he was held hitless on Opening Day was in 1997, when he started the season on the disabled listwith the Texas Rangers.
