1. Virginia

Skinny: Look for the deep, talented Cavaliers to make it two titles in a row.

2. Syracuse

1999 record: 12-5

Skinny: Don't be surprised if the 'Cuse falls to Virginia in the title game once again.

3. Johns Hopkins

1999 record: 11-3

Skinny: Five returning All-Americans could get the Jays to the title game for the first time since 1989.

4. Princeton

1999 record: 9-4

Skinny: They might be young, but the Tigers are title contenders once again.

5. Georgetown

1999 record: 13-3

Skinny: No program over the past five years has improved as impressively as this one.

6. Duke

1999 record: 13-3

Skinny: The Blue Devils have everyone's attention, not to mention one of the nation's more potent offenses.

7. Hofstra

1999 record: 13-3

Skinny: The Flying Dutchmen have possibly the best balance of any team. A definite tournament threat.

8. Loyola

Skinny: Four top scorers and six All-Americans are gone from last year's underachieving team.

9. Maryland

Skinny: The Terps missed last year's tournament for the first time since 1990.

10. Notre Dame

Skinny: The western teams keep creeping up, and the Irish look like the best of the West.

11. Navy

1999 record: 7-7

Skinny: The Midshipmen will go as far as goalie Mickey Jarboe drags them.

12. UMBC

1999 record: 11-4

Skinny: The Retrievers have been to the NCAAs two years running. Now they want to win a playoff game.

13. North Carolina

Skinny: In his final season, coach Dave Klarmann will try to reverse four straight losing seasons.

14. Penn State

Skinny: Joining the ECAC gives the Nittany Lions a chance at an automatic NCAA bid.
