Carl L. Beyer was the go-to guy at the Baltimore County jail last year, and he has the pay stubs to prove it.

A corrections sergeant with 19 years' experience, Beyer agreed to work one extra shift after another at the detention center on Kenilworth Drive in Towson, volunteering for months to help fill a position that had been left vacant.
