County will give flu shots for $8 at center Thursday

TOWSON -- The flu clinic that was canceled at the end of last month because of snow has been rescheduled for Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Towson Health Center, 1046 Taylor Ave., just east of Loch Raven Boulevard.

The cost is $8 and is covered by Medicare. No appointment is necessary.

Russell Mirabile switches to Democratic Party

DUNDALK -- Russell Mirabile, an unconventional Republican politician who ran unsuccessfully for a state Senate seat in 1994, has become a Democrat.

Mirabile made the switch after a number of eastern Baltimore County associates said his political philosophy better matched that of the Democrats.

Mirabile is a legal arbiter, and his family owns a trailer park and bingo hall. He is noted for his local Fourth of July parade floats.

Road, assisted-living plan on Carney meeting agenda

CARNEY -- New proposals for assisted-living facilities and revitalization of the Harford Road business area will be among the topics at the Carney Improvement Association's monthly meeting Feb. 17.

Police seek two men in shooting death

Police said yesterday that they were seeking two men in the shooting death Thursday of a West Baltimore man who might have been shot in a dispute over money.

Donte Dinez Davis, 25, of the 3000 block of Edmondson Ave. was in the 1300 block of Edmondson about 10: 25 p.m. when he was shot several times by two men armed with handguns, said Sgt. Fred Bealefeld. He said Davis might have owed the men money.

Bealefeld said anyone with information about the gunmen's identities is asked to call the homicide squad at 410-396-2100.

Volunteers needed to help design, create forest buffer

The Department of Recreation and Parks is looking for volunteers to learn how to design and create a forest buffer for Stony Run at Wyman Park.

Volunteers will attend a free, two-day workshop March 18 and March 22, then plant trees April 1 and April 8.

Forest buffers line streams with trees that remove sediment and other pollution from storm water before it reaches the stream. Information: 410-396-0339.
